Brentwood Library hiring: Library Services Associate

The Brentwood Public Library is hiring a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Library Services Associate @ $10.00 per hour. The successful candidate will be a part of a team providing all ages programming, collection development, customer assistance with computers/circulation services/readers’ advisory, and office and supervisory duties.

Bachelor’s degree and related experience required. Must be proficient in a Windows’ environment, comfortable using MSWord, Excel, and Publisher, and be a technology savvy consumer.

Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, reach, and lift light loads, (25+ pounds) have a valid PA Driver’s License, access to own transportation, pass Act 33/34 clearances.

Weekend and evenings included. Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time. No health benefits. Position open until filled.

VITA Tax Appointments

Tax appointment sign-ups will begin:
Wednesday, January 25th @ 10:00 am.

Patrons will be able to either call or stop by the library to make an appt. on or after 1/25/12 @ 10:00 am.
To be fair, no early sign-ups and no voice mail messages will be returned.

Appointments will be Saturdays in February and March.

First come - first served.

The VITA Program is for low income, $49,000.00 or less, and elderly taxpayers

Wise Walk Continues this Thursday!

Are you an involved and active 50+ adult?
Come join us for the Fall Wise Walk, every Thursday at 9:30 am starting September 15th.

All new participants receive a complimentary pedometer, walking guide, and t-shirt.

Please register online or at the circulation desk and fill out the required waiver forms!

Get outside and enjoy the late summer and early fall weather and the company of other walkers! This summer we walked to the North Pole, now join us as we walk to Death Valley, California!

This popular program brought to you by the Allegheny County Library Association in partnership with AARP and the Highmark PALS (People Able to Lend Support) Program.

Poetry Together

Be a part of an intergenerational poetry writing experience.

Join two published poets to learn more about the world of poetry, and try your hand at a few of your own. The program brings together 3rd through 6th graders and older adults to collaborate through the creative process.

The workshop will meet four Saturdays starting September 10th, at 10 am, with a poetry reading to be held on October 5th at 6:30 pm in the program room.

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

On Monday, the VFW Post 1810 will sponsor a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Parade begins at 10:00 am, and ends at Park Drive. (Park Entrance) The ceremony is held in the library parking lot.

dear library customers,

The Brentwood Library is temporarily stopping the donation of materials until January 2010. We greatly appreciate all the wonderful items that have been donated recently, and this short break will give us time to catch up.
The only exceptions to this temporary break are items that are always in demand: DVDs, music CDs, and books published in 2009. These items can still be brought in during normal library hours.

We will begin accepting donations again in January 2010.

Changes at the library...

Well, we have moved a few things around to better serve YOU!

1) The Adult computers have been separated from the children/teen computers. The Adult computers are now lined up on the left side as you enter the library, and the children/teen computers are lined up on the right.

2) We now have an "Open Hold" shelf on the left as you enter the library. These shelves are for patron requests that have arrived from other libraries. Please feel free to check for your holds alphabetically by last name, or stop at the circulation desk and we will pull your items for you.
